The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) was established by Public Law 108-15 in 2003 and codified in 31 U.S.C § 5135. The CCAC's main function is to advise the Secretary of the Treasury (Secretary) on themes and design proposals related to circulating coinage, bullion coinage, Congressional Gold Medals, commemorative coins, national medals, and other medals and coins.
Additionally, the CCAC may advise the Secretary with regard to the events, persons or places to be commemorated by the issuance of commemorative coins. The CCAC is required to provide a report for each fiscal year’s activities of the CCAC.
The CCAC must meet at least twice annually, and meetings may occur either virtually or in person. These meetings are open to the public and are streamed live.
The CCAC serves as an informed, experienced, and impartial resource to the Secretary and represents the interests of American citizens and collectors.
